Fishing For Our Lunch

The Galata Bridge in Istanbul is crowded with fishermen - yes, all men.  My husband and I enjoyed a fish sandwich for lunch shortly after I snapped the photo which inspired yesterday's sketch .

You Can Draw in 30 Days

I finished Mark Kistler's book in 7 days and it is too soon to tell if I draw any better, but I did complete all of the lessons and I feel I learned a few things.

Here are a few more samples from my sketchbook:

My major objective in reading this book was to see if I could master perspective.  We'll see if I can translate these lessons into drawings of my own.

Sunset in Vancouver

We were treated to a fabulous dinner chez Janice and Jim this week. Janice challenged me to a sunset photo from their patio. Not bad - I even got a freighter in for her. She loves those!

I'm making my way through Mark Kistler's You Can Draw in 30 Days.  Here are a few of my sketchbook pages so far:

Alcohol Ink ATC Experiment

When I had my alcohol inks out a couple of weeks ago, I wrapped the fabric applicator around my finger and loosely applied some green and brown inks to the photo paper. After it was dry, I went in with a pen and drew the tree.
I love the vivid colors of the alcohol inks and the looseness of this application technique. I can see myself trying other "painting" techniques with this medium.

Garage Gets Ink

After doing Across the Street  in pencil crayons, I realized that my Garage was severely lacking in contrast. The thin drawing paper won't take more paint, so I added ink to the drawing.

It's better, but not great. One day I hope to learn to resist the urge to paint on thin paper. Or be confident enough in my skills to just draw in the watercolor journal.

Accordion Village

The Vancouver ATC Group just finished a collaborative book project called "Accordion Village".

We each created houses for the book
 and swapped them around.

Back Cover of My Completed Book

Thanks to all who participated and to Penelope, who is the idea and mayor ("coordinator") behind the village!

Wedding Memories

This is a sketch of the box of candy I brought home from the wedding I recently attended.  The tea cup I drew from a photo I took; it's the cup I drank my tea from at the reception.

Church in Winter

I'm starting to learn how to draw buildings. This first is from an old calendar and I'm sorry I don't know who took the photo or where it is located.
I've ordered some books from the library to help me learn perspective.
I like the drawing OK in this one; not the spacing of the lettering so much.

Loaves and Fishes

Painted from a Photograph by Neil Parker

A lovely photograph by Neil Parker graced our United Church bulletin this week, and I couldn't resist painting it in my sketchbook  I tried to locate Neil via Google to get his permission for this but I couldn't locate him.  If you see this Neil - my apologies; contact me if you would like it removed.

Janice suggested I photograph all of my index cards together before binding them into a book.

Inspired by ICAD

I'm making ATC's for the upcoming Vancouver ATC swap. This one was inspired by one of the index cards I did in the recent ICAD project.

More Than One Way to Skin a Cat

Hee hee...
Is that better?

Summer Garden

I'm trying out a blog posting from my phone.  Unfortunately, a Blogger bug prevents me from editing a photo before posting it, so the quality may not be good enough.

Sketching at Starbucks

Vicki and I met recently for coffee and sketching.  There was more nattering than drawing done, I'm afraid.  Nothing in the Starbucks inspired me except for these ceiling lights...and the handsome man sitting by the window.

CreativiTea

Watercolor

My friend, Vicki, invited me to a "meetup" with the CreativiTea group in Queen Elizabeth Park last weekend.  I rode my bike up.  Despite all of the beautiful flowers, it was my bike I chose to capture.  I'll have to get up there again and try the flowers!

It's a wrap!  70 index cards in 61 days.  Here are the final three:

Gelatos

Thanks so much for a great project, Tammy!  I'll be binding these into a book methinks.
