Inspired by Pegasus

One of the themes for the March swap at the Vancouver Artist Trading Card Group is "Pegasus".  Pegasus was a winged stallion (usually white) of Greek mythology.  My hand-carved horse stamp doesn't have wings, but we'll call that artistic licence.  The background is a gelli print.

Snow Day!

Yesterday was a snow day here on the "wet coast" and I stayed inside except for the shoveling part.  It was a great opportunity to practice some lettering and drawing in my journal.

Here we see how ready for spring I am!

Fun Letters

This card is for my grand-niece, Sloane, who will be one in March.  We learned these "Fun Letters" at the Westcoast Calligraphy Society meeting in January, so this is my "homework" I'll be taking to the February meeting for show and tell.  There is nothing like a deadline for inspiration!

Sochi.ru

I've enjoyed watching the Olympics and I'm so proud of our Canadian athletes.  I'm not sure what we'll do with ourselves now it is over!

Nature Comes Awake

Even in early February there are things coming awake outside. Spring is coming - YAY!  This is a small drawing coloured with pencil crayons.  I like how it looks in a journal the right size for the drawing.

Just a Quick Sketch

It is lovely to go outside and pick things to bring inside and draw. Even in winter there are a few awesome things to see!  This is a quick sketch in my journal, colored with watercolor.

Gelli Print Cards

These gelli prints were done on some paste paper I made years ago.  The paper was sitting, like many paper experiments, in my studio/office awaiting inspiration.  These prints can now go into the world with my love.

Those trees are showing up again.  I might as well give away all of my rubber stamps except for this tree.  LOL

Hope is the Thing and Rethinking Journals (again)

Here's another completed journal page inspired by Joanne Sharpe's "Draw Your Awesome Year 2014" class.  I'm loving the class but I think I'd be happier with this page as three separate pages in a smaller journal.

This vignette was inspired by a book I finished recently:  Creative Lettering:  Techniques and Tips from Top Artists, compiled by Jenny Doh.

Finishing UFOs

Last week I joined some lovely ladies at our church for a UFO group meeting.  No, this did not involve viewings of Unidentified Flying Objects, but rather the completion of UnFinished Objects.  All crafters have them, you know you do.

I finished about a dozen bookmarks penned with the words from my favorite Linnea Good hymn:  Make a Joyful Noise, based on Psalm 100.

Monthly Grids

Joanne Sharpe has us doing grids to document our daily lives, in her class, Draw Your Awesome Year 2014.  In January we drew little pictures in each square.  In February we have hearts!

I love these organic shapes:

The Photo

In this lesson, Joanne Sharpe talked about using a lightbox to draw from photos.  Such fun!
