Silly Scraps Saturday

This is a simple collage made of scraps, done in my Scrap Journal.  I made my Scrap Journal with my Bind-It-All, especially to hold these "warm-up" collages.  When I want to make something but I'm not inspired to do anything specific, I make one of these.  One usually leads to two (or more).  I got the idea from iHanna's "Every Artist Needs a Scrap Notebook" post.

I've also tried out "Found Poetry" here.  I cut phrases out of a magazine at random and then arranged them to make a poem.

Every Saturday I post one of these simple collages.  Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope you are enjoying the weekend!

Strata Composition

This collage is an example of a "strata" composition.  As you can see, I continue to be fascinated and inspired by design.

Does This Count?

I'm trying to create every day for Art Every Day Month, but I'm so busy this week all I could manage was to cut some organic shapes from a gelli plate print. LOL  Does this count?

Fingerpainting

Playing with my Portfolio Pastels today, and a photo from Paint My Photo.  I love the pastels because they go on soft (like an oil pastel) and are water soluble.  I like to use my fingers to apply the water and smoosh the paint around; it reminds me of fingerpainting in kindergarten. LOL

Dialoguing with my Inner Critic

This journal page is a watercolor resist done with rubber cement.  I wasn't sure whether to post this, so instead I've blurred out the readable parts of my dialogue with my Inner Critic.  But I am still creating for
Happy Creating!

Choices

Sometimes I feel that the hardest part of making art for me is the number of choices I have to make to get started - subject, message, medium, etc., etc., etc.  If I can make the first choice I can usually proceed.

This journal page started with a bright acrylic background.  Weeks later I added the stencil with watercolour pencil crayon and then the words entered the picture the next day.

Everyone Smiles In The Same Language

I made just a few artist trading cards. Well, more than a few.

It all started with these two birds, which I stamped on a variety of text paper.  Many times, it seems.  Sixteen to be exact.  I had no idea what I was going to do with them.  I thought I'd make a few ATC's, and by the time I got through the Sizzix Rainbow pad, I was out of birds!  The greeting is by Hero Arts.

Playing with Paisley

These stamps are a big set of "build it yourself" paisleys by Autumn Leaves.  I stamped them all in pigment ink, including the solid ones that colour the inside.  I decided to have a good session with them as part of my "Use Every Stamp" challenge.

Thanks for all your wonderful comments on "My Home" Artist Trading Cards,  They are very encouraging.

Lucky 13

One of the themes for the Vancouver Artist Trading Card swap this month is "Lucky 13".  13 doesn't actually appear on this card but the images speak to me of luck and superstition. LOL

My Home

I was born here in Vancouver and I still love the old neighbourhoods with lots of trees and songbirds twelve months of the year.

These Artist Trading Cards show all the things I love about my home!

Stamp Carving

I'm making my way through Geninne Zlatkis' book Making an Impression and loving every minute of it.  Geninne shares with us some of her fabulous designs - lots of images we can use to carve stamps!

Another Journal!

I know, how can I possibly need another journal?  When inspiration hits, though, it is hard to ignore.

I was reading the Bow Valley Calligraphy Guild Magazine and was inspired to do calligraphy on black.  I remembered that I had a new journal with black pages.  I got it a few years ago and it has been waiting for just the right moment.  (Journals have personalities, right??)

The first page is done with a gel pen.  It was kind of a "warm up" page:

Then I got out the gouache and a Speedball "B" nib.  "B" nibs have round ends which are perfect for doing the "text" hand:

Once I was warmed up with the pen, I wanted to do some black on white.  I modified some lower case italics to do them all on one line, as if they were capital letters.  I did a whole 8 1/2" x 11" sheet and then trimmed out a smaller rectangle:

So far, Make Art Every Day is going well!

Stamping With Watercolour

Yes, you can stamp with watercolour.  Just make sure the stamps suit the medium - natural, mostly solid stamps work the best, like leaves, ferns, etc.  Give it a try!
